Local Alumni Admissions Volunteer Program
- Who are Alumni Volunteers?
- What's the Time Commitment?
College Fairs
College fairs are events organized by high schools or school districts. High schools invite college and university representatives to meet with students and families to discuss information about admissions, academic programs, etc. Our office coordinates participation in college fairs, but we rely on Alumni Volunteers to represent Penn State at the event. College Fairs are held September though November and April through May.
We are in particular need of volunteers willing to do fairs in Waco, Belton, Bastrop, San Marcos, or New Braunfels. Please sign up as a volunteer using the button above if you are in or near these areas and would be willing to share Penn State with the next generation of students.

LionsROAR
The LionsROAR program assigns prospective students to available alumni volunteers. The alumni contact these prospects by email or phone to congratulate them on their acceptance, and arrange for them to visit the Penn State campus where they've been accepted.
The program is a critical piece of the recruitment process. Students and families consistently tell us what a wonderful touch it is to hear from an alumnus who offers warm congratulations and welcomes the student to Penn State. The program begins each November when the University begins making offers of admission to students, and runs through early May.
For more detailed information and documentation on the LionsROAR program, visit the Alumni Admissions Volunteer website.

Admissions Offer Receptions
Each year during Spring Break, Alumni Volunteers assist the Admissions Office with student receptions for those offered admission to the University. These are held in a variety of venues, including hotels, homes, businesses, and local places of interest. The purpose of this event is to encourage students to accept their offer of admission.
The program generally consists of information on why Penn State is such a great place for college (academics, advising, housing, different campuses and student activities). Alumni Volunteers are encouraged to mingle and talk with students and their families.

Prospect Receptions
Each year, the Recruitment Team reviews demographic and market information to determine whether to hold student receptions for prospective students in specific areas. The purpose of this event is to educate prospective students early about Penn State and to encourage them to apply.
These receptions are held in spring and fall. The target population is high school juniors/rising seniors. Alumni volunteers attend the receptions and assist staff.
Prospective students can create a MyPennState Profile through the Undergraduate Admissions website to schedule campus visits, apply for admission, and monitor the status of their applications.

Online Chat Rooms
The Admissions Office hosts online chat rooms throughout the year, offering prospects the chance to chat with current Penn State students, as well as allowing their families to talk with alumni volunteers about their time at Penn State.
High School Visits
Alumni Volunteers may act as local contacts for high schools in their areas. Alumni Volunteers may wish to make a brief visit to the high school counselor’s office, provide materials, and answer questions about Penn State.
